The Clubhouse The Clubhouse was designed to blend into the landscape, evoke Monterey’s architectural traditions, and create a romantic rustic setting for members to use as an extension of their homes. On a knoll among oaks, commanding a panorama of mountain skyline, and oriented to shelter sunny terraces from prevailing breezes, it overlooks the 18th green and 1st tee and their fairways. The architecture suggests a compound of old ranch buildings. The Great Room, a simple stone structure surrounded by a verandah, represents the original hacienda. The Pro Shop/Cart Barn recalls 19th century outbuildings. The two-story Locker Room building reprises the “Old Monterey” colonial style and its New England influences. The warm, inward-focused Lounge/Bar and lantern-like Grille room reflect the century-old vogue of melding Hispanic adobe customs with the hand-wrought ornamentation of the Arts and Crafts Movement. |
