Cowboy life on the old Rancho San Carlos was hard work. The Moore’s arrival in 1923 brought a more genteel lifestyle with horseback riding, tennis, and swimming establishing the Preserve’s modern tradition of athletic and outdoor family activities. Four tennis courts (two hard surfaced, two acrylic clay), a manicured croquet lawn (which sometimes doubles as a grass tennis court), horseshoe pits, a full-sized bocce ball court and an enclosed batting cage are all located at the Sports Center. The barn-like Sports Center buildings include a spacious weight room with state-of-the-art cardiovascular machines, strength training equipment, free weights, a peaceful yoga studio for classes, or private practice, and women’s and men’s locker rooms.
