Experience the best California has to offer all year round.

The Preserve is a hidden gem of coastal California habitats, larger than Manhattan Island in size, offering extraordinary and endless opportunities to explore, discover and play. Explore nearly 100 miles of trails with breathtaking views around every turn, on foot or horseback. Grab your clubs to golf on one of the world’s premier courses. All skill levels are welcome and no tee time is required. Borrow a vintage bicycle from the Hacienda to meander down to Moore’s Lake where fishing, canoeing, paddle boarding and starlit evenings sharing stories by the campfire await.

This is horse country. A haven for equine enthusiasts of all levels.

Explore the majestic landscape while riding horseback through rolling hills, redwood lined canyons, and along ridge tops with sweeping panoramic Pacific Ocean views. Horses are woven into the fabric of The Preserve since the time it was one of California’s original land-grant Ranchos. With 44 groomed trails that run deep into the enchanted Santa Lucia Mountains, this is where horseback riding moments become memories. When you’re away, rest easy knowing your cherished horse is in extremely capable and caring hands. Professional wranglers offer trail rides daily and Preserve owned horses are available for members and guests to ride. Horse grooming, riding lessons, exercising, boarding, plus daily turnouts are available to member owned horses. The Equestrian Center features three center aisle barns, a breezeway barn (all equipped with box stalls and attached runs), 12 large paddocks (for daily turnouts), grooming stalls, wash stalls and two large arenas, a round pen and an exercise track.

The social heartbeat of the community.

The 1920’s Spanish Colonial Hacienda is the gathering place for the Ranch Club, hosting a rich slate of cultural and artistic events. Its casual understated elegance combined with superb member services creates unforgettable experiences for you, your family and friends. The Hacienda also provides lodging for member’s guests and features a madrone dotted courtyard, sprawling grounds, indoor and outdoor dining, a pool and organic garden. Brimming with colors of the season’s vegetables, fruits and flowers, the garden offers a place to get your hands dirty. Whether it’s foraging for fungi, painting alongside premier plein air artists, building gingerbread houses for the winter festival, or reveling in open air concerts under a canopy of redwoods – this is where magical moments happen.

A variety of community and private classes help you connect with your body and cultivate your dream fitness regime. Afterwards, a soothing hot tub and luxurious locker rooms promise to relax and revitalize you.

Memories of a lifetime are made during the summer when your imagination goes to play.

In fact, it is camp all year round for children on The Preserve. The air is filled with giggles and shouts of glee as kids take turns cascading down a two- story waterslide, jumping in the splash garden, climbing on the jungle gym and engaging in tennis, golf, art and horseback lessons. Campers can also be found face painting, enjoying crafts, playing field games, lizard hunting and making new friends. Here, long summer days are filled with horseback riding, swimming and kayaking on Moore’s Lake. Once experienced, kids, parents and grandparents continue to return to its shores.

Game changer. Where purists of all levels come to play, simply for the love of the game.

Like everything designed here, the land was the first thing taken into consideration when creating the golf course. The preeminent golf course architect of the era, Tom Fazio, was brought in and taken up in a helicopter over the Santa Lucia Mountains. He was given a map and a comprehensive site survey of every archeological and ecological features and asked to design the golf course of his dreams. What resulted was the Preserve’s Golf Course, a 365 acre course that immerses the golfer in mother nature. Whether a walking or riding game, Fazio agrees "This is as good as it gets. You don’t really need me, the course and spectacular golf holes are already here."

A coveted combination of good old fashioned hospitality and staff that aims to please.

Resident Services provides all of the help you can ask for in the home, even when you’re not at home. Imagine returning from vacation to a clean and and fully stocked house.
